The 458 Speciale A brought the naturally aspirated chapter of Ferrari’s V8 Special Series to a close. Developed from the 458 Speciale and limited to just 499 examples, it combined Ferrari’s 4.5-litre naturally aspirated V8 with an aluminium retractable hardtop. The engine produces 597bhp at 9,000rpm, while active aerodynamics balance downforce and drag according to speed. Despite the roof mechanism, the Speciale A weighs only 50kg more than the coupé and recorded an identical Fiorano lap time of 1:23.5.

This exceptionally low-mileage example is finished in Avorio, a historic Ferrari colour with roots stretching back to the marque’s competition cars of the 1950s. What makes the specification particularly unusual is the way the original owner chose to configure it: no racing stripe, no visual interruption to the Avorio bodywork and a Cuoio leather interior which is incredibly rare to see on any Speciale - coupe or Aperta resulting in an exceptionally elegant interpretation of Ferrari’s most focused 458, and one that feels very different from the vast majority of Speciale Apertas.

With just 499 examples produced worldwide and only 49 right-hand-drive cars widely reported to have been built, the Speciale A is considerably rarer than the coupé and represents the final open-top Ferrari to pair a mid-mounted naturally aspirated V8 with the focused engineering of the Special Series. With just 426 miles from new and such an individual specification, this is a particularly special example of one of Ferrari’s defining limited-series cars.
