The 992 GT3 RS is a machine that hardly needs an introduction. One glance is enough to grasp its importance. Its dramatic swan-neck rear wing and intricate aerodynamic elements generate an incredible 860 kg of downforce at 117 mph, twice that of its predecessor, the 991.2. Combined with a 4.0-litre naturally aspirated flat-six, the car reaches its full potential: 518 bhp, a top speed of 184 mph, and performance worthy of its place among the all-time greats.
Thanks to lightweight engineering and Porsche’s exceptional attention to detail, its handling is unmatched. Significant and innovative improvements to the front suspension make it the first of its kind in the 911 lineage. Airflow management has also been optimised, featuring a drag-reduction system similar to those found in Formula 1 cars. It activates above 62 mph at 95% throttle and can also be engaged manually via the DRS button on the steering wheel. Inside, the minimalist layout nods to Porsche’s classic sports cars, while introducing its own distinct touches including additional steering-wheel controls for adjusting adaptive dampers and compression.
The RS delivers cornering capability that stands in a league of its own, made possible by Porsche’s relentless focus on weight reduction through carbon-fibre components and a roll cage in place of rear seats. Optional lightweight bucket seats push these benefits even further, reducing mass while maximizing support. With a Nürburgring lap time of 6:49.4 - eight seconds quicker than the 918 Spyder - it’s clear just how extraordinary this car is. Expectations for this highly anticipated model were sky-high, and Porsche not only met them effortlessly, they surpassed them.
