Ultimate Private Porsche Collection Goes Under the Hammer

Last Friday saw the hammer go down on one of the ultimate private Porsche collections in the world. The auction saw the historical Porsche collection from late racing driver Matthew Drendel up for sale. Matthew was no stranger to racing luxury cars for a living, as a privateer racer starting his career in a Ferrari 355 Challenge and later changed to Porsche 911 GT3-R, which was a pivotal moment in his racing career.

After switching to racing his Porsche 911 GT3-R he won, where he took the 2001 GT Team Championship with G&W Motorsports. From this point on it saw him having an affinity with Porsche cars and he started to collect rare Porsche cars, starting with a Porsche 930.

Later he went on to found the Heritage Motorwerks Porsche dealer in North Carolina, USA and saw him built up his collection of Porsche cars which are widely regarded as one of the most significant private collection turbocharged Porsches in the world.

One of the star cars of the Porsche collection was the 1973 Porsche 917/30 Can-Am Spyder, which featured a 1,000hp flat-twelve cylinder and is one of four cars produced at the Porsche Works Racing factory. The 1973 Porsche 917/30 Can/Am Spyder has been extensively restored and realised a final price of £2.8m ($4.4m).
