Romans International is a specialist dealership for Used Porsche luxury sports cars in Surrey, offering some premium quality examples of Porsche luxury sports cars available in the UK.

The Porsche AG Company was originally founded and established by Dr. Ferdinand Porsche in 1931, a successful Austrian automotive engineer who had worked for various companies on many different projects.

Dr. Ferdinand Porsche was not only an engineer but also an innovator, some might say ahead of his time. This was seen during this time he worked as leading technical engineer for the Austrian motor company Jakob Lohner & Co, at the end of the 19th century.

During this period Ferdinand Porsche was credited for the design and development of the very first hybrid motor vehicle (petrol-electric) - the Lohner Porsche in 1898, the vehicle was developed and produced by Dr. Porsche while he worked for Jakob Lohner & Co. The Lohner Porsche Semper Vivus (or Mixte Hybrid as it was known), was partially powered by two electronic motorised wheel hubs on one axle, while the remaining axle was powered using a petrol motor. The Lohner Porsche Mixte Hybrid car also featured a specially designed electric generator to sustain the battery charge.

When the Porsche AG Company was established in 1931, one of its first triumphs was the development of the Volkswagen; a project Ferdinand Porsche played a key role in the design and development as an engineering consultant. The 1939 Porsche Type 64 is widely regarded as first car from the Porsche stable to bare the family name. This was the predecessor of the now classically iconic Porsche 356. The popularity of the Porsche 356 was slow at first, but in 1951 the little known Porsche 356 SL won a class victory at the 24 Hour Le Mans Race in France, suddenly catapulting the 356 on the sports car map and the world motoring stage.

The Porsche 356 was hugely successful in racing and with the car buying public. Then in 1964, the Porsche Company unveiled the now timeless classic model of the Porsche 911 for the first time, making its debut in 1963 at the 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany.

The Porsche 911 went through many upgrades in the 60s, 70s and 80s, seeing many new models based on this winning sports car formula. The air-cooled engine was upgraded to either 2.4, 2.7 or 3.2 litre engine sizes, along with upgrades to suspension and brake modifications. These sought after models included; 2.7 Carrera RS (& the Carrera RSR light-weight model), 911 turbo, 3.2 Carrera - first launched in 1983 and Porsches first super-car the 959).

Then In 1989 Porsche decided there was going to be a new chapter in the 911s history, with the introduction of the six cylinder, water-cooled, boxer engine. This new 911 (or Type 964 as it was also known) also combined a body-shell and trim facelift, with options of either two or four wheeled drive model versions.

Jump forward to the present day and Porsche AG are now on the third platform for the 911, which includes the new formidable GT3. Over the last decade Porsche has extended its range into other markets, including the sports roadster market with the hugely popular Boxster, the Panamera 4-door luxury saloon and the luxury SUV market with the Cayenne. The Panamera and the Cayenne are now available in both diesel and hybrid models, as well as the convention petrol engine options.

Whats next for Porsche? To touch on their innovative history the company is currently developing and planning to produce a Porsche 918 Spyder, which is a new Plug-in-Hybrid for 2013. Using the same technology Porsche has already had some successful racing results with their new 911 GT3 R Hybrid, which features both conventional petrol engine and a permanently energised hybrid motor.
