2013 Porsche 911 GT3: May Not Be Available with Manual Gearbox

  • 2013 Porsche 911 GT3: May Not Be Available with Manual Gearbox

It has been rumoured that the planned 2013 Porsche 911 GT3, may not be available with a manual gearbox option. The reason behind this assumption is that manual gearboxes and transmissions were found in new Porsche 911’s and the PDK (Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe), and that paddle-shift systems seem to be winning favour from consumers in recent years. Porsche luxury car dealers have seen sales in manual 911’s accounting for 30 percent of the total 911’s sold.

This news has not been confirmed officially from sources at Porsche. As apparently the new Porsche 911 GT3 is currently testing both PDK & manual transmission options, so the jury is still not out yet on this situation. Also in the USA the bias is apparently weighted in the favour of manual transmission, as the American market seems to like the sportier traditional feel to driving.

Although it has been reported that Porsche have confirmed that the next-generation GT3 and GT2, will feature a variant of the electromechanical steering system, which was originally introduced on the new Porsche Carrera.
