Model Overview
Starting with the limited numbered 996 generation GT3 RennSport (RS) model in 2004 the iconic GT3 RS label climbed the ladder to each generation afterwards – the 997, 991 and most recently, the 992. The goal was to build a line of car that was oriented towards a much more track focused setup that was lighter in weight, stiffer suspension to help with handling.
Building on the already highly capable GT3, the GT3 RS cranks the dial up to 11 by adding additional track focused aerodynamics and a power increase. The 991, 991.2 and 992 GT3 RS haul a 4.0L Flat-6 engine behind the rear axle which for the 991 models include a new sump, larger crankshaft and improved oil supply system. For the newest member of the GT3 RS club, the 992 receives a new single-throttle intake system and an uprated cam and rocker arm system, with some components borrowed from Porsche’s race cars – no surprises there.
The Weissach package is also available for the 991.2 GT3 RS and onwards, shaving even more weight off by adding a carbon fibre roof, titanium roll cage and a carbon fibre bonnet to name a few of the weight saving components. Hidden beneath the bodywork are carbon fibre anti-roll bars & drop links to the 991.2 model. For the 992 model, carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) is used for the front & rear axle stabilisers as well as the coupling rods. Maybe the most important upgrade of them all, the Weissach package adds forged Magnesium lightweight wheels to all four corners.
