Unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, the SVJ Roadster is similar in nearly every way to its hard-top sibling. The Roadster, quite appropriately, still wears the ‘Super Veloce’ and ‘Jota’ suffixes, denoting the car’s impeccable performance and track pedigree. Top speed remains the same as the coupe at 217 mph, with acceleration from 0-62mph increasing by only a tenth of a second - the Roadster does not sacrifice on performance. The roof is constructed from lightweight carbon fibre, meaning that only 50kg is added over the coupé. This is why the top speed remains the same, with the added weight having such a negligible impact on acceleration.
Between the engine and driver sits an electrically operated window. When closed it is designed to act as a windshield but when opened, it functions to accentuate the engine sound. This single window partition allows you to feel directly connected to the naturally aspirated V12 engine, with every upshift and downshift being heard just as much as it is felt.
The SVJ Roadster employs the same aerodynamic technologies as the SVJ coupé. The ALA (Activa Lamborghini Aerodynamica) 2.0 and fully active suspension setup combined, maximise the downforce produced – which is why the SVJ Roadster can handle its very impressive top speed. Lamborghini have produced a car that accurately portrays their personality, filled with flamboyance and the pantomime we have come to expect and love from this legendary Italian car marque.

WHAT THE JOURNALISTS SAY
- The Aventador SVJ Roadster delivers more thrills and excitement in one throttle application than many modern performance cars can muster in a year of driving.
- The electronic wizardry has gotten better, as well, and not just the nearly undetectable stability control. The magnetic dampers' new programming has softened up the ride quality noticeably without, as mentioned, giving up anything in grip or body control.
- But the SVJ seemingly punches through obnoxious and into pure theatre, cracking smiles in everyone.
