Aston Martin DB4GT Sells for Staggering Price at Bonhams Auction

An Aston Martin DB4GT Coupé sold for a staggering £839,000 (or 1,012,000 Euro’s) last week at Bonhams auction in Paris. Bonhams is one of the world’s largest auctioneers.

The recent Paris auction, which was held at the fashionable venue of La Halle Freyssinet, featured over 100 classic cars from around the globe. The 1961 Aston Martin DB4GT Coupé saw particular interest from potential buyers, as the Aston Martin DB4GT Coupé is particularly rare (as only 75 were ever built); it is a lightened version of the already highly appealing standard DB4 car.

The GT version was a stripped down example of the standard model, with the removal of any excess mass. The car featured thinner magnesium-aluminium alloy body panels, a larger aperture air scoop to aid cooling and smoothly faired in headlights to reduce drag, which was to ultimately improve the car’s performance.

The engine in the GT model was a modified 3.8-litre straight six producing 302hp, which saw the GT accelerate from 0-60mph in a mere 6.1 seconds, with a top speed of 151mph! Today you think those performance figures are very respectable, so when the car was launched in 1959 it must have been like driving the equivalent of a supercar of today, like a Bugatti Veyron! By today’s pricing an equivalent car would cost probably have a similar price tag of that of a Veyron.
