£26million worth of Supercars sold in Monaco: 1957 Ferrari goes for £4m

Some of the world’s richest car collectors were out in full force in Monaco where £26 million worth of classic supercars were snapped up at the RM Auction. The 1957 Ferrari 625 TRC Spider sparked a frenetic bidding war and eventually went for £4million making it one of the world’s most valuable cars.

The Ferrari 625 TRC Spider was originally fitted with a 2.5L engine but was restored in 1982 with a 3L V12. It is one of 2 cars ever built and is seen by enthusiasts as the prettiest Ferrari ever built. It was previously owned by an American racing driver for the last 30 years of it’s 55 year life and garnered almost double the amount it was estimated to make.

Other highlights from the auction include a 1966 Ferrari 206 S Dino Spyder, a 1952 Ferrari 225 Sport Spyder which both went for £2m each. A Ferrari FXX Evoluzione went for over £1m whereas Michael Schumacher’s world championship winning F1 car went for £645,000. Ferrari dominated proceedings but there was also big money spent on some classic Alfa Romeos, a 1936 Mercedes and a 2007 Peugeot Le Mans racing car.
