Model Overview
The GT4 is Porsche’s track-focused, hardcore version of the much-loved Cayman, essentially having been given the “GT3 treatment” as Porsche did previously with the 911. The 981, or first generation Cayman GT4 was first unveiled in 2015, introduced with an engine that hadn’t yet been seen in a Cayman – a 3.8-Litre 6-Cylinder block taken from the 911 Carrera S. This, combined with new chassis and gearbox setup, weight-saving measures and a handful of new aerodynamic additions, resulted in one of the most highly regarded and well-received Porsche models in modern times.
More recently, in 2019, the updated 718 Cayman GT4 was revealed, which further improved upon the outgoing model. Downforce is increased by 40% as a result of new aerodynamic updates, with the front-end having been facelifted to allow for larger front grilles. The larger rear wing, and more efficient rear diffuser also contribute to this, creating an incredibly planted and confidence-inspiring driving experience.
With the GT4’s engine producing 414bhp, it achieves a 0-62mph time of just 3.9 seconds. But the power and acceleration make up a small portion of what this car is about – the GT4 is a born and bred track weapon, with Porsche managing to concoct a perfect balance of involved, direct handling and a unique ability to offer comfort and usability for daily driving.
