Often considered to be one of the best Porsches to ever wear the GT3 badge, the 997 GT3 RS has become an icon in its own right. Sporting a 3.6 litre flat-6 engine along with a 6-speed manual gearbox, the 3RS makes 444 bhp and achieves a 0-62mph in 4 seconds. With excellent proportions, subtle-yet-effective aerodynamics including a carbon fibre rear wing and dramatic weight savings over the standard 911 (997), it hits the sweet spot between a staggeringly capable road car, as well as a monster on the track.
Built from 2007-2008, just under 2000 examples of the gen 1 997 GT3 RS were built, with the gen 2 being introduced in 2010. Becoming rarer every year, this generation of GT3 RS has become somewhat of a collectors’ item, with values slowly rising since its production run – that’s if you can resist the temptation to hit the track, of course.
The design changes are subtle over the 997 GT3, with the main differences lying with the rear wing and two-and-a-half inch extension to the width at the rear, allowing for wider wheels and tyres. This results in masses of grip and handling unmatched by few other road-going sports cars.
Overall, the 997 GT3 RS is now a modern classic, loved by both drivers and collectors. It demonstrates perfectly the capability of Porsche’s finest engineers, with a truly analogue and unadulterated racing car experience for the road.

WHAT THE JOURNALISTS SAY
- ‘’The ceramic brakes are powerful and fade-free, and perfecting your lines is utterly absorbing – get a corner just right and you know it.’’
- ‘’The key to a 911 is not just how good it is to drive, but how often it makes you want to drive it. And that RS remains king.’’
- ‘‘Distinguished by its performance capability and the unadulterated driving experience enjoyed with a racing car, but also meets all requirements for road-legal sports cars’’
