Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 Prepares for 2012 Race Season

  • Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 Prepares for 2012 Race Season

The new Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 is being prepared for the 2012 race season after testing began recently starting with a 620-mile, two-day session at Brands Hatch.

The majority of the mileage was covered by factory driver Darren Turner, who feels the nimble V12 Vantage GT3 is a big step up from the Aston Martin DBRS9.

The V12 Vantage GT3 differs from the road version, no more so than under the bonnet where you will find a dry-sump type of the road car’s 5.9-litre V12 engine, which has been race-tweaked up to 600bhp, from the original 510bhp spec engine.

Power is transferred to the rear wheels by the Xtrac six-speed semi-automatic gearbox and race-spec carbon fibre propshaft, which sits behind the front axle to improve the car’s overall weight distribution.

Aston Martin is the only car manufacturer with a race entry for each of the Le Mans 24-hour’s categories.
