The iconic design of the 911 Targa has been seamlessly integrated into the 992 generation, retaining the signature roll-over bar from the classic Targa and featuring a brilliantly engineered roof mechanism. At the top of the range sits the Targa GTS, long considered the sweet spot in the 911 lineup. The GTS enhances the driving experience with a sharper focus on performance, striking a perfect balance between everyday usability and the raw intensity of the more extreme GT models.
The 992 Targa GTS delivers a 30bhp power boost over the regular Targa 4S, along with upgraded brakes borrowed from the 911 Turbo, and a 10mm lower ride height thanks to the PASM suspension system. As with other GTS variants, it comes generously equipped with performance-focused features as standard, including the GTS Sports Exhaust, Sports Chrono Package, Centre-Lock wheels, and a race-tex interior—all contributing to its more dynamic character.
While a manual transmission is available, the 8-speed PDK is likely the better choice for the Targa, offering a more refined and practical driving experience. Notably, there is no rear-wheel drive option for the Targa; all models are equipped with Porsche's advanced all-wheel-drive system. With its 2+2 seating and spacious front boot, the Targa proves to be a surprisingly practical summer sports car that's equally capable as an all-season daily driver.
However, the Targa’s main allure lies in its stunning design and sophisticated elegance, qualities that are further amplified in the GTS model, which combines the best performance with a level of class and style that stands apart in the 911 range.

WHAT THE JOURNALISTS SAY
- The temptation to unleash the engine is that much greater in the GTS not only because of the more aggressive exhaust note but because the revs seem to build more quickly and freely.
- The Targa GTS is roomy in a way that other sports cars aren't and one of the most comfortable cars to sit in.
- A convertible that's searingly quick, sharp to drive, plush around town, surprisingly practical and genuinely usable 365 days of the year.
