The McLaren 720S Spider takes the convertible supercar to another level. The stigma that is usually associated with a convertible track car is negligible here. The 720S Spider is every bit as good on the track as its coupe brother. This is a testament to the clever engineering applied by McLaren to the āMonocage II-Sā carbon fibre tub, which is only slightly modified from the 720S coupe. Adaptations were incorporated to allow for the roof to securely latch, whilst the continued use of a carbon fibre tub means that chassis stiffness and strength has not been compromised.
Weight gain is a side-effect of adding a retractable roof, however McLaren have managed to keep the weight gain to less than 4% on the 720S coupe. Unique glazed floating cantrails behind the two seats increase visibility, support the roof and help to direct airflow to cool the engine and increase downforce without raising the drag coefficient.
Overall, the 720S Spider is a viciously quick and impressive car that offers hyper car levels of performance with added luxury of an open top, enabling a more engaging experience.

WHAT THE JOURNALISTS SAY
- We said the same about the coupe, said it was arguably the worldās most complete supercar. The same is true of the roadster.
- This has all the wind-in-the-hair appeal of a droptop but mixes it with the performance of a track star.
- McLaren has achieved that rarest of things: a convertible the dynamic equal of the coupƩ from which it's derived.
