Returning for only the third time in the model’s 40-year history, the G99 BMW M5 Touring combines the performance of BMW M’s flagship super saloon with the space and versatility of an estate. It is also the first M5 Touring to be officially offered in the UK, bringing together muscular proportions, heavily flared wheel arches and a purposeful stance with up to 1,630 litres of luggage capacity.

For the first time, the M5 uses BMW’s M HYBRID powertrain, pairing a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 with an integrated electric motor. Together they produce 727 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque, distributed through the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Despite its size and practicality, the M5 Touring accelerates from 0-62 mph in just 3.6 seconds, while its plug-in hybrid system also allows up to 41 miles of electric-only driving.

Adaptive M Suspension and Integral Active Steering help disguise the car’s dimensions, while the configurable M xDrive system retains the engaging and adjustable character expected of an M5. Capable of carrying five occupants and their luggage in comfort before delivering genuine supercar performance when required, the new M5 Touring is arguably one of the most complete all-round performance cars on sale.
