Pebble Beach gears up for the Concours D’Elegance
The splendour of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is set to return over the weekend, an event which sees car enthusiasts from all over the world head to California.
Featuring at the 18th hole of the world-famous Pebble Beach Golf Course on every third Sunday in August, the popularity of the event has done very little to diminish, even though this is its 63rd year. An integral part of the Pebble Beach Automotive Week, it always brings the event to a close in spectacular and luxurious fashion.
The star of the show is the auction, a haven for classic car enthusiasts and collectors with over 1,000 of the finest luxury cars from years gone by going under the hammer. With the 1957 Ferrari 250 GT 14-Louver Berlinetta, the striking 1966 AAR Gurney-Weslake Eagle Mk 1 and the 1928 Mercedes-Benz 680 S Torpedo Roadster by Saoutchik just three of the cars included in the auction listings, experts are predicting that the sales total could easily break the $300 million barrier; it could make this year a record breaker, easily surpassing last year’s revenue of $265 million. So far, none of the vehicles listed are expected to fetch $20 million on their lonesome, although the aforementioned Ferrari 250 GT is estimated between $9million & $11 million.
As well as a celebration of world’s most celebrated models, the Pebble Beach Show also serves as a platform to show off cars of the future. One of the most anticipated is the stunning Bentley Mulsanne Le Mans Limited Edition, a vehicle which joins the fleet of Continental’s that take inspiration from the heralded 24-hour endurance challenge. Looking to combine luxury with sublime performance, the interior features diamond-quilted leather seat covers and door panels as well as even drilled-alloy foot pedals; no expense has been spared on the technical specifications, with sports suspension and steering among a host of features that leave the driver wanting to cruise the tarmac for hours on end.
With so much in store, the 2013 edition of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is sure to further cement the event’s status amongst the ultimate automotive celebrations.
