Ferrari debut the 458 Speciale A in Paris

  • Ferrari debut the 458 Speciale A in Paris

One of the most eagerly anticipated cars of 2015, the Ferrari 458 Speciale A has recently been announced as the most powerful convertible that Ferrari have ever created and with it debuting at the Paris Motor Show this weekend its best we take a look at what Ferrari dealers and fans can expect.

With a limited run of just 499 models to be created worldwide, it will instantly be recognized as a future classic due to it’s rarity which is so often a major factor when it comes to prancing horse future values.  The ‘A’ stands for Aperta, or ‘open’ in English referring to it’s aluminium retracting roof which differentiates it from the coupe version.

Using the same impressive mid-engined 4.5L naturally aspirated V8 found in the coupe version of the Ferrari 458 Speciale producing 597bhp this is quite possibly the last naturally aspirated V8 engine that Ferrari will ever make with Ferrari’s future cars set to adopt turbocharged engines.

According to official statistics confirmed by Ferrari, the 458 Speciale A can accelerate from 0 to 62mph in 3.0 seconds and reach 124mph in just 9.5 seconds. Even though the 0-62mph time is marginally slower than the coupe version, it can still lap the Fiorano circuit – Ferrari’s privately owned 1.86-mile racetrack – in just 1 minute and 23.5 seconds. Impressively, this is the same as the hard top version and 1.4 seconds faster than the iconic Ferrari Enzo which did it in 1 minute 24.90 seconds.

Amazing Aluminium Alloys

Incredible attention to detail has gone into the calibration of this chassis, using no less than 10 different aluminium alloys to provide extreme rigidity for the driver. Helping also with the handling is Ferrari’s Slip Angle Control System, detecting when the driver has purposely done a power slide and modifying the traction and stability settings appropriately.

The 458 Speciale A will be making its official debut at the Paris Motor Show (4-19 October) and is sure to steal the show, where it will feature a striking yellow paint with a Blue Nart and Bianco Avus stripe down the centre. The fantastic styling continues in the cabin, with the seats embossed with the same shade of yellow as the interior, as well as alcantara leather. The centre console, tread plates and door handles will also be covered in a unique blue carbon fibre.
