Audi expands the RS Range with the brand new RS7 Sportback

  • Audi expands the RS Range with the brand new RS7 Sportback

It seems the Audi RS range keeps getting bigger and bigger with the latest to join the pack the Audi RS7 Sportback. It seems as though the basic sports version the S7 has only been around for a minute but Audi have wasted no time to whet the appetite of enthusiasts who want the top of the range hardcore performance version.

A lot of people expected the RS7 but perhaps not so soon after the S7 especially with the new RS6 Avant only being announced just over a month ago but Audi fans now have lots to get excited about. Based of course on the A7 which is new territory for Audi and the Quattro GmbH factory that creates these hardcore ‘RennSport’ versions now comprising of the RS3 Sportback, RS4 Avant, RS5 Coupe & Cabriolet, RS6 Avant and now the RS7. It has already debuted at the Detriot Motor Show which just passed and the performance figures are highly impressive.

The RS7 will use the same 4.0L twin-turbo charged V8 engine being used in the RS6 Avant adopting an 8-speed automatic gearbox and Quattro 4-Wheel drive which overall will produce 552bhp. With a 0-62mph of 3.9s and a restricted top speed of 155mph this is a big car that seriously goes and it goes even quicker with the Dynamic Plus Pack unlimiting the speed to 189mph.

Prices start at £84,000 but as with all RS models there will be fantastic technology both as standard and on the option list and in our opinion will be the more exciting alternative to the CLS 63 AMG or BMW M6 Gran Coupe. One notable feature is the Cylinder-On-Demand technology which deactivates parts of the engine saving fuel economy when your cruising but will reactivate as soon as you put your foot down.
