Model Overview
Upon its launch in June 2018, the 600LT sat at the pinnacle of McLaren’s Sport Series range being the Longtail version to the 570S. Following directly in the footsteps of the McLaren’s first ever road-going LT, the 675LT, 30bhp has been added from the 570S with 30kg being removed from the wheels, suspension, and brakes. The overall length has been extended by just over 7 cm due to an extended front splitter and rear diffuser, both of which enhances downforce. The 600LT spider was released in mid-2019, offering the same handling dynamics with the additional ability to retract the roof. McLaren’s continued use of its rigid monocoque throughout its range means that the spider variants feel exceptionally similar to the coupes even on track.
Steering in the 600LT is razor sharp and instils a level of confidence when carrying high speed around corners that not many in its sector can match. The 600LT is able to communicate clearly with the driver through the precise steering and confidence inspiring brakes that are reassuringly firm. Every response to driver input is executed immediately and without hesitation.
The Longtail design language that is present in the F1 & 675 LTs is present in the 600LT. The beautiful exterior design has been aerodynamically sculpted in order to minimise drag without compromising on downforce. This means aggressive winglets and intakes which are not in any way hard on the eye to look at. Everything flows perfectly, form merged seamlessly with functionality. The addition of the top exit exhausts adds theatre to the aesthetic and with the rear window down in the Spider, the 3.8L twin-turbo can be appropriately auditorily appreciated. The 600LT is a worthy addition LT line-up. There is no wonder why it was awarded the coveted “EVO Car of the Year 2018” title.
