Model Overview

Joining the long line of legendary M cars in 2014 was the BMW M4, the successor to the M3 Coupe – one of BMWs most iconic and successful cars.

Offering the practicality of a 4-series with the performance of the M3 Coupe that it replaced, the M4 proved to be a popular car amongst those needing a more practical sports car that does not compromise on speed and handling. Using the same 3.0L in-line 6 built for the new M3 and M4, the car could reach a 0-62mph in 4.1 or 4.3 seconds, depending on if you had the 7-speed M-DCT automatic or 6-speed manual gearbox. The 425hp engine, paired with upgraded suspension, exhaust, brakes, and the use of carbon fibre cemented the M4 as one of the best coupes on the market. A convertible variant was also released, giving the M4 even more versatility for those spirited drives if you are lucky enough to encounter some sunshine on your trips.

In 2016, the original M4 was given the Competition package makeover – gaining 19hp, upgraded suspension, retuned electronic differential and Dynamic Stability Control, and some fresh aesthetics. Lightweight sports seats and the black chrome M Sport exhaust, along with a stylish gloss black trim, separated the M4 Competition from its ‘standard’ younger brother. With a slightly faster 0-62mph time of 4.0 seconds, and better handling, the M4 Competition brings even more hardcore performance to what was already a hardcore car.

Various other M4 variants have been released over the years, such as the M4 GTS and M4 CS, offering better performance, more speed, and more weight-saving measures, to further elevate the M4 package.

The second generation of M4 was introduced in 2021, bringing a welcomed facelift and performance upgrade. The 510hp M4 Competition – the only M4 available in the UK – gets from 0-62mph in just 3.9 seconds with a limited top speed of 155mph (or 180mph if you get the M Pro Pack). Whether you like to drive on the edge in Sport Plus mode, or cruise down the motorway in Comfort, the M4 Competition will adapt to any environment you choose to drive in.

The new M4 is a masterclass of German engineering, making it a popular choice for those who need the best of both worlds – performance and practicality. The chassis has been widely praised as one of the best BMW have ever produced and now with more options and features than ever before, the M4 is understandably being touted as the most complete sports car on the market.
