FACT: Porsche has won Le Mans more times than any other manufacturer. So, it seems only right that they should have produced a special edition car to celebrate this achievement but also their dominance in many other forms of endurance motorsport. Produced by those brilliant chaps over in Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur, just 235 Porsche 911 Carrera S Endurance Racing Editions have been built worldwide. In addition to the bold decals adorning the exterior of the car many of the best optional extras have been included as standard, such as Sport Chrono Package, Sports Exhaust, Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) and Rear-Axle Steering to name but a few. Step inside across the “911 Carrera S Endurance Racing Edition” adorned carbon door sills and you are greeted by a red 12 o’clock marking on the steering wheel and carbon fibre trim throughout. Overall the Endurance Racing Edition represents a fitting tribute to Porsche’s on-track achievements with a version of this benchmark sports car including all the best options and interesting decals to cap it off.
This is the Gen II 991 Carrera S and like the rest of the 991 range, it receives a welcome series of updates including the new 3.0L turbocharged flat-six engine, various exterior styling upgrades including new front and rear bumpers, new door handles, redesigned air intakes at the rear to improve airflow, 3D taillights and the same vertically slatted engine cover as the rest of the line-up.
Step inside and the changes are more significant with a new steering wheel inspired by the 918 Spyder Hypercar and an updated multimedia infotainment system. The touchscreen is standard across the range and easier to navigate than the outgoing set up. The system is compatible with Apple CarPlay, so iPhone users will be able to mirror their phone to the touchscreen and stay connected on the move. Porsche have done it again and made their trademark, beautifully engineered, sports car just that bit better still with this iteration. It’s all in the detail.
