The SL65 is a seriously rare car and unfortunately a dying breed. Mercedes, like other manufacturers around the world are downsizing and strangling their engines wherever possible, and this is precisely what makes this car so exciting! Everything about this car is premium, excessive and beautifully engineered. The styling and phenomenal folding hard-top is so well integrated, you would be forgiven at first for thinking this was a coupe. But once the roof comes down, operational at speeds of up to 25mph, the SL65 takes on its true form offering the occupants the full unadulterated version of what this engine has to offer. For most manufacturers a 6.0L V12 would provide plenty of grunt for a drop-top GT car. Evidently not for Mercedes who opted to go one step further by adding a pair of turbochargers. The result is more power, much more torque and potentially better fuel economy depending on how one chooses to drive. Overall the SL65 melds the charisma of a comfortable grand tourer with the exhaust note and performance of a supercar.
