McLaren say the 570S is a game changer in it's segment, as it delivers McLaren DNA to a new customer base and now in a convertible version that customer can get even closer to the action. Powered by the same 3.8 Litre Twin-Turbo V8 found in it's bigger brothers the 650S and the P1; the 570S produces 562 bhp (570PS hence the car's name) and 443 lb ft of torque fed through a 7 speed dual clutch gearbox. The 570S Spider produces some sensational performance figures for one of the ‘entry level’ McLarens, but an even more impressive feature is the car's lightweight construction. The 570S Spider weighs just 46kg more than its already featherweight coupe sibling, this is all down to McLaren's new carbon fibre MonoCell II chassis design, which means little to no bracing is needed due to the removal of the roof.
In terms of styling, there is no denying the car has the current McLaren family DNA, with the P1 inspired LED front and rear lights. However, that is where the similarities end as the 570S shares no other panels with other McLaren models. It has unique aerodynamic styling features, such as the front aerodynamic blades, spoiler lip and bespoke rear diffuser. The car also features door tendons inspired by the P1 that channel cool air into the engine. The electrically folding hard top roof keeps the flowing lines of the coupe in-tact whilst allowing the occupants to get that much closer to the theatre, speed and exhaust note. The 570S cabin has been designed for everyday usability featuring increased storage pockets, a central cupholder and an overhauled IRIS II navigation system, all helping with this car’s daily driver credentials. Overall the 570S Spider represents a far more road-focused offering from McLaren, combining stunning performance and styling with real world drivability which can all be converted to an open-air driving experience at the convenience and touch of a button.
