The new Defender was arguably the most anticipated car of 2020, bringing the Defender into the modern era by applying the latest technology available from Land Rover. The upgrades are instantly apparent. From its modern edgy style to the series of onboard computers and stability systems, the new Defender is without a doubt a change for the better. Incorporating computers into everything the Defender does makes for a much more refined driver experience over the previous analogue drive. The long suspension travel provides a soft and gentle ride, absorbing any imperfection in the terrain beneath it. Although it shows good on-road compliance, it is just as impressive off-road, easily navigating through any terrain with the clever Dynamic Stability Control and all-wheel drive system.
Presented to you here is the 110 X P400e variant. The ‘X’ variant is the top of the line specification pack, providing you with many of the usually costing options as standard. This means the Defender is fully packed with technology inside and out – everything you could ever need for adventures on and off the road. This particular example features the P400e plug-in electric hybrid vehicle claims to achieve 76.9 mpg on a sensibly driven long-run, which is massively appealing to Land Rover customers who put serious miles on their cars. In addition, the fact that it can also run in a purely electric mode for short trips producing zero tailpipe emissions, will be music to environmentalists’ ears. All this low emission high fuel efficiency wizardry has been made possible by a 2.0L Ingenium engine coupled to an 85KW electric motor. The electric and petrol systems can work separately or together whilst using regenerative braking or a plug-in charger to top up the 13KWH battery. Together they produce nearly 400hp, meaning despite the extra weight of the battery technology the P400e is no slouch. The new Defender has truly been redefined, whilst still demonstrating the original purpose of what the Land Rover Defender was originally designed to achieve.
