Berlinetta directly translates as “little saloon”, this car is certainly not a saloon, but the name is fitting as the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta is a “littler” car than its predecessor the 599 GTB. Thanks to this slightly smaller stature and an aluminium space frame chassis, developed in partnership with Scaglietti, the kerb weight and centre of gravity have been lowered significantly, helping towards this car’s spectacular performance figures.
This front mid-engined supercar from Fiorano is powered by a monstrous and unapologetically brutish 6.3L V12 engine developing no less than 731hp. These Italian ponies are all sent to the rear wheels through the rapid F1 DCT gearbox and well refined electronically limited slip differential. On its release the F12 was the most powerful road going Ferrari ever made and the car has won numerous awards including being named “The Supercar of the Year 2012” by Top Gear Magazine and winning the “International Engine of the Year Award 2013” for “Best Performance Engine” and “Best Engine above 4.0 Litres”.
Cutting edge aerodynamics developed from the 599XX and Ferrari F1 programmes were used in the F12, including the Aero Bridges on the front flanks creating down force. In addition, the F12 receives active brake cooling ducts, opening when the brakes are hot to provide a flow of cold air and otherwise remaining closed to help with smoother air flow around the front bumper. This car then, has the brains to back up the brawn of that epic V12. Overall the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta provides beautiful Italian styling, exhilarating performance and an intoxicating exhaust note, all characteristics that set this car up as a highly collectible, future classic, Ferrari.
"The final 2000 revs to the red line and the speed of the shift to the next gear are truly breathtaking." - EVO (2014)
"The F12 Berlinetta sounds incredible, a whole sweet shop of aural goodness pouring treats into your eardrums." - Top Gear (2012)
"Having 730bhp is one thing; possessing the ability to deploy it properly is quite another." - The Sunday Times (2014)
