Following in the footsteps of the wonderful 430 Scuderia Spider 16M, Ferrari decided to re-test that winning formula by making an open-top version of it's latest limited edition V8. Officially named the 458 Speciale A (with A standing for Aperta - Italian for "Open") the exhilarating performance of the coupe transferred over to it's convertible sibling with the added benefit of open-air driving.
Limited to just 499 examples worldwide the Speciale Aperta has cemented itself into Ferrari's history being the last Ferrari model to feature a naturally aspirated V8. This engine itself has been hugely celebrated having won three international 'Best Performance Engine' awards which is marked by a special plaque in the cabin. Performance remains much the same as it's sibling coupe with the additional aluminium retractable hardtop taking just 14 seconds to retract.
Whilst it's rarity and historical significance adds serious weight to the importance and collectability of the Speciale Aperta, it's the combination of looks, performance and the ability to enjoy that intoxicating exhaust note in all it's glory which has made the car one of the all-time greats. We highly recommend every enthusiast should experience the Speciale if they get the opportunity, but it's the Aperta which remains the more sought after and a must-have in the world's greatest Ferrari collections.
"It's the final naturally aspirated V8 super-sports Ferrari, surely giving it instant 'collectable car' status." - Classic Driver
"Drop the roof and give it some welly and the sound is glorious." - Car Magazine
"It has 600hp from a normally aspirated V8, and it makes most racing engines seem lethargic and asthmatic!" - Chris Harris
