To some, the Ariel Nomad R will solely be a collection of scaffolding poles welded together in the vague shape of a car. However, the Nomad R is far, far more than this. Despite the raised suspension and rugged look, the Nomad R is more suited to darting round a track or B-roads than navigating uneven terrain. It uses a 2.0L engine borrowed from a Honda Type R with a supercharger added and a power increase to 335bhp. This sort of power in a vehicle of such small dimensions and weighing in at less than 700kg delivers an experience like no other. The engine coupled with the Sadev 6-Speed Sequential gearbox with conventional clutch pedal and limited slip differential creates an addictive drive that you will not become tired off in a hurry. 0-60mph is dealt with in only 2.9 seconds, with short gear ratios for extremely quick acceleration.
The Nomad R is a vehicle that communicates 100% of what is going on beneath the tyres to all four of your limbs. The example presented to you comes specified with some essential options including Ohlins Multi-Adjustable Hydraulic Dampers with 2-Piece Springs and the Road Pack which renders this animal completely legal for road use. Only 5 were ever manufactured in the ‘R’ variant which makes this a very rare opportunity to own such a unique vehicle.
"It accelerates like a ball bearing in a pinball machine." - Top Gear
"This is a buggy with a dynamic focus to make a sports car feel flabby." - Car Magazine
"It's a finely-balanced machine with limits that you dance around, rather than back away from. It excites, thrills and frightens in equal measure." - Pistonheads
