Porsche has launched a super sports car every decade since the 550 Spyder in 1953 and none of these legendary supercars like the 959 and Carrera GT pushed the boundaries quite like the Porsche 918 Spyder. The 918 Spyder has rewritten the supercar rulebook with its incredible performance, grip and ability to drive silently in EV mode. It's a technical masterpiece that delivers an awe-inspiring driving experience. Blending cutting-edge hybrid technology with track proven motorsport engineering, the 918 has redefined the hypercar market. With a 4.6 litre naturally aspirated V8 engine coupled with two electric motors to produce a staggering 887bhp and 944lb ft of torque to all four wheels, the 918 accelerates from 0 to 62mph in just 2.5 seconds. Top speed is 214mph.
Unlike the McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari, the 918 Spyder is available in two versions. Along the standard car, the Weissach package 918 is designed for customers who want what Porsche calls 'a more performance oriented finish" and adds £60,000 to the list price. Key features of the Weissach package include the carbon fibre roof, carbon fibre rear wing and carbon fibre windscreen frame that are left in an unpainted carbon fibre weave. There is also an option of sticker packs that take inspiration from the classic 917 race cars.Further additions to the Weissach package include the magnesium wheels which save 14kg, reduced sound insulations which cuts cabin weight, driver and passenger six-point seat belts, front wheel arch aero flaps which increase downforce and drag reducing winglets.
Altogether the Weissach 918 is 41kg lighter than the standard car and three seconds quicker around the Nurburgring. The astonishing 6 minute 57 second Nurburgring lap tome was set in the Weissach car. However, the 918's party piece is that it also returns some very un-hypercar-like economy figures. Thanks to its hybrid power the 918 can return 94 mpg and even more impressively; 18 miles purely on electric power at speeds of up to 93mph.
We are delighted to have sold a few 918 Spyders here at Romans International and it truly is one of the best cars ever made. The 918 Spyder truly combines the best of hybrid technology with motorsport heritage.
