Aston Martin unveiled the new V12 Vantage S to the world at the end of May, and in the wake of a great deal of excitement over this powerful new car, the luxury car manufacturer surprised fans again with the revelation of the brand new Vanquish Volante.

The first official pictures and specifications of the new Vanquish Volante were revealed earlier in June, and the stunning car could be their greatest convertible sports car yet. Essentially, it is a convertible version of the V12 Coupe and combines both performance and style sublimely.

The Vanquish Volante is Aston Martin’s first convertible with a body made entirely from carbon fibre, offering drivers a car that is both lightweight and sturdy. The 565bhp AM11 6.0 litre V12 engine allows the Vanquish Volante to reach a top speed of 183mph and, in just 4.1 seconds, the car can accelerate from 0-62mph – these figures are almost identical to the coupe which is impressive considering the extra weight of the Volante.

Aston Martin’s CEO, Dr Ulrich Bez, describes this latest model as “what luxury super GT driving is all about”, and as well as featuring a number of weight-saving ingenuities, the Vanquish Volante is a considerable improvement from the DBS Volante with increased stiffness, a larger boot and more predictable handling. With prices set to be £10,000 more than the coupe at £199,995 before specifying any cost options there are definitely plenty of other models which look better value for money including this SLS Roadster or maybe the new-shape Bentley Continental GTC Mulliner.

The Vanquish Volante though is beautiful and is sure to be a very desirable car once it comes onto the market. The same goes for the new V12 Vantage S. Fans of the Vantage series will probably have to wait until the beginning of 2014 to see it in showrooms, but it looks set to be worth the wait.

The Vantage S will replace the much-loved V12 Vantage and will include Aston Martin’s new AM28 6.0 litre V12 engine and more importantly will come only with the ‘Touchtronic’ transmission meaning the manual gearbox will be no longer – a real shame for enthusiasts. The top speed of the car has increased from 183mph to a phenomenal 205mph. The V12 Vantage S can reach 62mph in just 3.9 seconds, making it the second fastest Aston Martin ever behind the limited edition One-77 which has now sold out.

Described by CEO Dr Ulrich Bez as “sporting performance in a ‘gentleman’s suit'”, the Aston Martin V12 Vantage S is sure to add to the company’s legendary portfolio.
