The history of Jaguar starts not with cars, but instead with motorcycle sidecars as the Swallow Sidecar Company in 1922. After moving the business towards building cars, with some bearing the Jaguar badge, the company was renamed to Jaguar Cars in 1945. After several mergers and changes in ownership, Jaguar spun off as its own brand and was eventually acquired by Ford in 1990, then by Tata Motors in 2008.
Jaguar is known best for its luxury vehicles, with their cars being the transport of choice for Royals and world leaders round the world. Perhaps one of their most iconic cars, the Jaguar E-Type, is hailed as one of the most beautiful and elegant cars ever produced and is a true legend of British automotive history. Jaguar also held the title of fastest production car from 1992 to 1993 with the Jaguar XJ220, reaching speeds of 212.3mph.
Another key moment for Jaguar was the introduction of the F-Type in 2013 – the āspiritual successorā of the E-Type, and a model that is still delivering on Jaguarās promise of speed and beauty to this day. Like many other performance car manufacturers, Jaguar uses its racing heritage and engineering knowledge to inspire their road cars. Undergoing various facelifts throughout the years, as well as special editions like the Project 7, the F-Type is a true British sports car and a fitting tribute to the E-Type on which it is built to commemorate.
Jaguar is also committed to innovation and sustainability, with its recent endeavour into the world of electric vehicles. The Jaguar I-Pace is their all-electric SUV, which provides the same Jaguar experience, with zero emissions.
