The flagship Bentley Mulsanne became the first car to be independently designed by Bentley in 80 years. First unveiled at the Pebble Beach Concours D’elegance in 2009 the Mulsanne has now established itself as one of if not the ultimate luxury saloon on the market.
Replacing the Arnage the Mulsanne keeps the traditional shape with an ultra-long bonnet and despite being 20cm longer than the Arnage the weight is almost identical. The entirely new chassis is designed using a steel monocoque with lightweight super-formed aluminium doors and front wings while the front end is a homage to the Bentley S-Type of the 1950s with a much more modern feel.
Inside the attention to detail is extraordinary from the 8-inch Sat Nav revealing itself from under the veneered door to the iPod connector found in it’s own chrome and leather drawer. Everything is hand crafted with all the fittings being unique to the Mulsanne creating a sumptuous elegance and comfort.
How the car combines this luxury with the hugely enjoyable driving experience is where the Mulsanne comes into class-leading territory. The 6.75L V8 twin-turbo and 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox allow the car to handle like a sports saloon with real performance helped in part by the adaptive air suspension which can quickly transform the car into a comfortable limousine when you want to relax in the spacious rear and be driven.
Like the Continental range, the Mulsanne also features a Mulliner Driving Specification which was introduced for the 2013 model year which features diamond quilted interior, unique 21” alloys and upgraded sports suspension and steering which further improves the driving appeal of the car.
