Romans International, the luxury car dealership, is one of the top specialists in the UK who offer premium quality examples of used Rolls-Royce cars for sale. Based in Surrey, Romans International offer one of the most comprehensive ranges of both performance and luxury cars to be found anywhere in the United Kingdom. We can also arrange delivery and shipping of your Rolls-Royce.
The prestigious car marque Rolls-Royce has a worldwide reputation and is known as being the epitome of automotive quality, with cars like: Silver Ghost, Twenty, 20/25, Phantom, Silver Wraith, Silver Dawn, Silver Cloud, Corniche and the Silver Spirit to name just a few, as well as the instantly recognisable famous bonnet mascot - the ‘Spirit of Ecstasy’ figure.
The company was founded by Charles Rolls and Henry Royce in 1906, who had met two years earlier and wanted to collaborate on a motorcar project. Charles Rolls was interested in flying, so when World War II broke out the company (like many at the time) assisted in the war effort by producing engines for aeroplanes. This gave the Rolls-Royce Company another string to its bow during the economic hardship that was to follow the end of the war.
During the 1920s, Rolls-Royce resumed its car production and opened its first factory in the USA. 1931 saw Rolls-Royce purchase the then smaller Bentley Motor Company. Bentley was hit by financial difficulty after the Wall Street Crash in 1929, which dramatically affected its business; this was compounded by the Great Depression, which saw a worldwide economic slowdown and the demand for expensive products dwindle.
It is believed that the colour of the Rolls-Royce radiator bearing the company’s monogram was changed from red to black as it sometimes clashed with the coachwork colour often selected by clients, but many also often say that this was a mark of respect for the passing of Henry Royce.
Even on his deathbed, Henry Royce still had his mind focused on the development of Rolls-Royce luxury cars, sketching out a design on the back of an envelope and asking his nurse (and housekeeper) to get it to the boys at the factory as soon as possible; it was a design for the world’s first adjustable shock absorber.
From the 1930s until 2002, Rolls-Royce and Bentley motorcars often shared the same chassis, engine, transmission and bodywork, and they were usually distinguished by their different radiator grilles and coachwork design and finish. Both luxury car marques were produced at the Crewe manufacturing plant.
In 1998 the company was purchased by the Volkswagen group, who had previously been supplying engines and components to Rolls-Royce and Bentley cars; BMW continued this practice up until 2002. In 2003, BMW opened an-all new manufacturing plant at the Goodwood Estate near Chichester in West Sussex.
Current models are offered in two main ranges, the Phantom and Ghost. These are then offered in different variants of each model family, including the Phantom series II, Phantom Extended Wheelbase, Phantom Drophead Coupé, Phantom Coupé, Ghost and Ghost Extended Wheelbase models.
Aside from the standard equipment models, as you would expect with such a luxury automobile, the range of extras and even bespoke options is almost limitless. This is why you see many heads of state, the rich and famous, and royalty around the world choosing this most famous of all luxury car marques on the planet.
